What is the summoner weapon penalty in calamity? ›

All summon weapons will do 25% less damage if the player is holding a weapon belonging to a different class. Tools and classless weapons will not inflict the penalty when held, and certain armor reduces the summoner penalty altogether.

Summoners have very low defense, with even Stardust armor having only 38 defense, so the overall goal of a summoner is to avoid all attacks while letting their minions and their whips deal the damage.

The Summoner in Terraria isn't for everyone because of the class's low defenses and active playstyle. But with proper planning, Summoners can dish out explosive damage with their Minions and turn the tides of battle in an instant.

Most bosses in Calamity are designed to be more difficult than those of vanilla Terraria, offering a challenge even to seasoned players, but are not required to progress through the vanilla game's content.
