As Zelda narrowly escapes Hyrule Castle’s prison during the Prologue of Echoes of Wisdom, she will now journey with Tri to find a way to stop The Mysterious Rifts. Our walkthrough will guide you through Suthorn Beach to your first town, and include tips for how to traverse Suthorn Forest to reach the Suthorn Ruins Dungeon and Rift, including where to find new Echoes, Pieces of Heart, and Treasure Chests along the way!

Swept away by an underground waterway, Zelda now finds herself in a small cave, but is much closer to the point marked on her map by Impa. Once you’re back on your feet, be sure to look to the right to find a small Rock you can learn to create an Echo of. Much smaller than a Boulder, it can be used as a makeshift weapon to pick and and toss at enemies — which is a good thing considering you have no real weapons to speak of.

Exiting out onto the beach, you’ll be able to check your map and find the area filled in, with the map marker not far away. Once you start exploring the beach however, a goopy little enemy called a Zol will appear.
Since you have no weapons to speak of, you’ll need to improvise. Luckily, there’s no shortage of Rocks and Wooden Boxes, and you can also summon your own Echoes to be thrown at the monster.
Once defeated, you’ll see a sparkling mini version of the enemy floating where it was defeated, and you can press ZR much the same way you do for objects to learn Monster Echoes for the Zol!
Armed with a monster of your own, you can now summon up to three Zols to fight for you, and direct them to attack specific monsters by targeting them with ZL.
As you explore this side of the beach, be sure to check the waters and dive down to grab a Green Rupee and Blue Rupee surrounded by Sea Urchins.

Speaking of Sea Urchins, you’ll find a group of them blocking your path as you try heading further right. Their spiky exterior automatically damages anything that touches them, making Zols ineffective. However, they are no match for an expertly tossed Rock. Be sure to learn the Sea Urchin Echo — as even though they don’t move, they do make excellent damaging barriers.
Before moving further right, look above where the Sea Urchins were a little to the left, and you can spot a Treasure Chest on the high ledge. To reach it, create a small platform to reach the left ledge, then place a Table at the corner, and a Decorative Shrub just to the right of the Table, and hop up to reach the Treasure Chest, which holds 20 Rupees!
Now that you have access to the right side of the beach, you’ll find a high rocky platform far on the right with another cave entrance out of reach. Start by swimming down to find a Blue Rupee between some Sea Urchins on both the left and right sides of a small rock island, and you’ll also find a Heart Piece out of reach on a ledge to the left.
Hop onto the lower rock island, and create two Old Beds stretching across the water to the left, and use them to jump across to the ledge where you’ll be able to grab the Heart Piece. With four of these, your maximum Heart Containers will be increased!
To reach the high cave, head back to the first rock island, and create a stairway of Old Beds to cross to the second island, and again across the broken bridge to the rocky ledges.

The cave entrance is guarded by a horde of Sea Urchins, but the various Stones you find by them can be used to clear a path.
Beach Cave
Inside the cave, head down the ladders, where you’ll encounter a flying Keese. They’ll swoop in from above, making them hard to accurately target, but you can simply create a Sea Urchin in front of you and they’ll divebomb to their own doom, allowing you to pick up their echo. Flying monsters like Keese have an additional perk that you can pick them up and walk off a ledge and glide through the air.
Once you reach a spot with a climbable wall in the background, you can also spot a Heart Piece along the bottom under a stack of boxes. To reach it, climb up the rock wall to a ledge on the left, and then create a series of Boulders that will break the boxes one by one (Hold ZR to erase the Boulder so you can drop a new one). This will allow you to drop down and grab the Piece of Heart.

Leaving the Beach Cave behind, you’ll find yourself in a small field leading to a small village. As you head down the slope, be sure to look on the right to find a small ledge leading up to a Treasure Chest. Place a Table and Wooden Box to reach the high ledge, and inside you’ll find 50 Rupees!
Take the small main path to reach a quaint little place called Suthorn Village. You can talk to the many Villagers around here to learn about the troubles in the nearby forest, and also that the hooded swordsman Link actually lives here! To make matters worse, a rift has appeared nearby that blocks the road back to Hyrule Castle, and limits your choices on where to explore next.
While you’re here, be sure to inspect the homes to find some Meat cooking in a fireplace you can learn an Echo from, as well as some Pots in another home. Out in the center of town, a boy is playing with a Trampoline, which may be one of the most essential Echoes you’ll ever find, so don’t miss it!
Be sure to take a dive down the well at the top of the village, and in the Bottom of the Well you’ll find someone’s home where a Treasure Chest holds 5 jars of Floral Nectar. On their own, they’ll provide a tiny bit of health recovery, but it will be awhile until you find someone to blend these into a drink to increase their properties.
You can also check out the general store in the top right of the village, where a merchant sells a few items:
Suthorn Village Shop | |
---|---|
Heart Piece (80 Rupees) | - |
Floral Nectar (30 Rupees per) | Red Potion (30 Rupees) |
If you found the previous Treasure Chests along the road to the village, you should have more than enough to buy your third Piece of Heart. You can also buy a Red Potion too, as it’s a good way to recover hearts fast if you don’t want to lie in bed for awhile.

As you leave the village behind, you’ll find the path north toward your quest destination has indeed been cut off by a rift, which will force you to head east instead into Suthorn Forest.

Sign, Ignizol, Rope, Caromadillo, Spear Moblin, Brazier, Peahat | 1 | 4 |
Taking the lower road out of Suthorn Village, you’ll find a Sign with directions, which is also something you can learn to make an Echo of.
Next to the sign is a strange looking sculpture that Tri will identify as a Waypoint. By interacting with these, you’ll be able to warp to them at will when viewing your Map!
As you head along the main path, look for a small pool of water guarded by Zols, with a Treasure Chest on the far side with more Zols hiding among the boulders and grass. Inside, you’ll get 5 Electro Apples.

Just to the right of this chest, you can find a series of ledges next to a cave opening. You can try using your new Trampoline to bounce up, or just a Table and Wooden Box to reach a high open area where another Treasure Chest can be found containing 20 Rupees.
Southern Suthorn Forest Cave
Be sure to check out the small cave entrance along the road east from Suthorn Village. Inside you’ll find a few Zol that you can take down quickly by summoning Keese. Off to the right, you’ll encounter a new Zol variant: The Ignizol. It’s quite durable against thrown objects and can light enemies on fire as a protective barrier, but you can still trick it into jumping face first in a Sea Urchin to defeat it and then copy its Echo. Note that it costs two points rather than one, due to its increased power over other enemies.
Heading through the doorway, you’ll find a large grassy room full of Zol, but a single summoned Ignizol can set the place ablaze and burn away all your enemies — just be sure not to get burned yourself and wait until the fires die down.
At the end of the room are two braziers, and one is unlit. Summon an Ignizol and toss it at the unlit brazier to solve the puzzle, and in the other room you’ll find a Treasure Chest that holds a Fairy Bottle!
Back outside in the forest, keep heading east to find a sign warning you of monsters hiding in the grass. Sure enough, this area is full of tall grass and small snake monsters called Ropes that will dart at you in a straight line to attack. However, while they can dodge airborne attacks by darting, they aren’t as effective if taken by surprise, and you can use a Keese to outmaneuver them and grab an Echo. If you get ambushed yourself, plant a Sea Urchin between you and the monster to take them out.
Head north through the tall grass, and you’ll find a second cave entrance above a cliff lined with wooden posts.
Northern Suthorn Forest Cave
Climbing the ladder down into this cave, you can spot a Piece of Heart just out of reach on a high ledge to the right. Since you can’t reach it yet, keep heading down the next ladder. At the bottom of the second ladder, you’ll find a long flat area with a slope where an armadillo-like monster rolls toward you.
It moves fast, and can bounce back and forth off walls to damage you several times, but it is still susceptible to a well-placed Sea Urchin (though you’ll need to place several), after which you can grab its Caromadillo Echo.
Just past the enemy is a row of wooden boxes, and you can summon your own Caromadillo to blast through the boxes easily, and then climb up a rock wall.At the next platform, you’ll need to climb up a series of rock walls that require you to jump between them, but be ready for another Caromadillo to roll down from above.
Avoid it, and climb up to the left, where you’ll reach the Heart Piece that was out of reach earlier. This should be the fourth one you’ve found, meaning you’ll get an extra Heart Container!
Head west of the cave, where you’ll encounter your first Spear Moblin. This pig monster is armed with a spear, and will usually play evasive as it backs away and even jumps on other platforms to get out of range, but summoning creatures like Caromadillos can overwhelm with superior speed.

Be sure to check out the pool of water nearby to spot a Fairy floating around. Unlike other Legend of Zelda games, you won’t need a net to catch them. As long as you found the Fairy Bottle in the southern cave, simply running into it will place it in the bottle, and grant you life if you run out in battle.
As you reach the marker on your map, you’ll find that the house has been overwhelmed by the nearby rift, making it impossible to enter. Luckily, Tri knows how to mend rifts with the help of his friends, and thinks another part of the rift to the northeast is where an entry into the rift can be found.
With your objectives updated, head back to the right and go up the slope to a higher level, and head east until you reach a Moblin Camp. Areas like these are often marked by the wooden post barriers on all sides, and feature a Treasure Chest in the middle that only unlocks when all Moblins have been defeated.
Note that one Moblin will be chowing down on some Meat (which you can learn as an Echo if you haven't already done so in the village already). These are great distractions to lure Moblins away while you summon other monsters to fight. Just remember to make the most of your three summon points, and try different combinations like two Keese and a Meat to distract, or a Caromadillo and Rope.
Once the group has been defeated, create a stairway up to the central platform, and you can open the Treasure Chest to get 10 Refreshing Grapes.
Past the camp, the road to the Rift Entrance lies just up to the northeast past a second Waypoint, but there’s one last optional cave to check out down a lower road, flanked by two Braziers that you can learn as an Echo.

Eastern Suthorn Forest Cave
This cave located below the main Suthorn Rift only has one large room serving as an arena for an imposing monster: The Peahat. The large plant creature can float up into the air and extend its tendril-like roots to spin like helicopter blades as it slowly flies toward you. When in its flying state, the tendrils will kill or knockback nearly any attack you throw at it, meaning you’ll either have to wait for pauses to launch Caromadillos at it, or use an Ignizol to set the grass (and Peahat) ablaze.
When in doubt, you can also summon a few Rocks to throw over its tendrils and at its body, and then use the boulders for cover when it charges you.Once defeated, you’ll be able to claim the Peahat’s Echo for yourself, but note that it costs all three Tri Points just to summon!
With all the caves here explored, you can finally head north of the Waypoint to find a spot where Tri can make an entrance into the Rift. Only by heading inside and defeating the enemies within will you hope to be able to free Tri’s friends and restore the area to its natural state. When you’re ready, interact with the spot to enter the Stilled Suthorn Forest.
