ingredients
1 package (1 lb. 4 oz. size) Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies
12 ounces cream cheese, softened
20 ounces almond bark, melted
directions
Crush cookies. Mix with softened cream cheese. Roll into balls; chill. Dip in melted almond bark to coat.
cook's notes
Crush cookies in food processor (Ziploc bag and rolling pin wasn't as easy) and add in cream cheese cubes to mix. Recipe called for 12 oz. cream cheese but I use 8 oz. I also chill this mixture before rolling into balls.

recipe tips
Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing.
Chill the oreo balls before dipping in almond bark to maintain their shape.
Use a fork or dipping tool to dip the balls in the almond bark.
Tap off excess chocolate after dipping for a smoother coating.
Place the dipped balls on parchment paper to set (so they won't stick).
Decorate with sprinkles or drizzled chocolate before the coating sets, if desired.
Work in batches, keeping the rest of the balls chilled until ready to dip.
Let the almond bark set completely before serving or storing.
Enjoy making these as a fun activity with kids or for a holiday treat.
common recipe questions
Can I use a different type of chocolate for coating?
Yes, you can use white, milk, or dark chocolate instead of almond bark.
What can I substitute for cream cheese?
There isn't a direct substitute for cream cheese in this recipe, as it provides a specific texture and flavor.
How do I melt the almond bark?
You can melt it in a microwave in short intervals, stirring in between, or use a double boiler.
Can I add other ingredients to the mixture?
Yes, you can add ingredients like chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, or flavored extracts.
How long should I chill the mixture before rolling into balls?
Chill until the mixture is firm enough to handle, usually about 1-2 hours.
Is it necessary to use a food processor to crush the cookies?
A food processor makes the process easier and gives a finer crumb, but you can use a rolling pin and a Ziploc bag if you don't have one.
How big should I make the balls?
Aim for about 1-inch balls, or use a small cookie scoop for uniform size.
Can I freeze these Oreo snowballs?
Yes, you can freeze them in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
How should I store the finished snowballs?
Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

I don't know what I did wrong...but coating these balls was a mess for me. I chilled the dough both after mixing the oreos and cream cheese, and then again after I made it into balls. I used the mint oreos (Great!), and used the Eagles' Brand coating (vanilla) baking bars. I heated the coating in the microwave before trying to dipping the balls. What is the key to dipping the balls. I used tongs, spoons, forks...and nothing really did a good job. Thanks!Sandra

The dipping process takes a little practice. When I normally do it I keep the dipping chocolate warm in a double boiler and use dipping forks (bought mine at Hobby Lobby) to drop the ball in then carefully lift it out.

August 7, 2008I tried this when my son and family came to visit and wound up sending them home with them. They loved them and so do I and I am not a chcolate lover. I have made them three times since and given the recipe about 10 times. I took them to a library meeting and passed them out and the kids loved them and so did the adults. Very good. Deanie

August 3, 2008I made these for book club and everybody loved them and wanted the recipe. I couldn't find almond bark, so I used white chocolate. Apparently I made mine pretty big because it only made about 45, but they were still delicious!

October 27, 2007I modified this recipe for Halloween. I used the same recipe (and added some ground red pepper for a little kick). After forming the balls, I squished them down a little bit to flatten them a little before chilling them. After melting the almond bark to coat them, I added orange paste food coloring and dipped the slightly flattened balls to coat. Once the coating hardens, I added a little "stem" of green canned/spray frosting to the top. Viola! "Pumpkins!"

November 21, 2006Recieved these as a gift! Fabulous! I had to have the recipe, everypone tends to use only 8 oz creme cheese, these would be great for kids/family to make, and decorate with red/green food coloring (in white almond bark) for Christmas!

These are DELICIOUS, fun and easy project. I only use 8 oz of Cream Cheese. Everyone raves about them and they run out and buy the ingredients and make them themselves.
