    Rotowire

    Rotowire

Marte is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: On base four times Sunday

    Rotowire

Martinez went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Padres.

The veteran DH was a key part of the Mets' 11-run eruption Sunday, and Martinez enjoyed a huge weekend overall against San Diego -- he went 6-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, two homers, six RBI and nine runs, and he reached base in 10 straight plate appearances during the three-game set. The 36-year-old is slashing .293/.363/.518 on the season with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 44 contests.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Pops third homer

    Rotowire

Torrens went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's win over the Padres.

Facing the team he made his big-league debut with back in 2017, Torrens took Jeremiah Estrada deep in the eighth inning. The 28-year-old catcher has started his Mets tenure off with a bang, batting .318 (7-for-22) in his first eight games for the club with three homers, but he remains firmly in the backup role behind Francisco Alvarez.

  • Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Three hits against Padres

    Rotowire

Nimmo went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over San Diego.

Batting second once again, Nimmo reeled off his third straight multi-hit performance. The 31-year-old has heated up in June, slashing .300/.352/.400 through 54 plate appearances, but his homer drought sits at 23 games. Nimmo's gone yard just seven times so far in 2024, a disappointing showing after he slugged a career-high 24 homers last season.

  • Mets' Harrison Bader: Scores twice, swipes bag

    Rotowire

Bader went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Padres.

Bader impacted this game in numerous ways, as he scored both times he reached. He drove in a run and managed to pick up his ninth steal this season. The centerfielder has been hot of late, picking up 10 of his 26 RBI over his last 10 games. Bader snapped a streak of 18 games without a steal and will carry a .272/.319/.385 slash line into a series vs the Rangers beginning Monday.

  • Mets' Pete Alonso: Homers, drives in five

    Rotowire

Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Padres.

With two men on in the first inning, Alonso took Dylan Cease deep for this 15th homer this season. He later added a two-run single as part of a four-run eighth to give him a season-high five RBI for the game. This one had to feel good for Alonso, as he broke out of a small slump where he had only five hits and one RBI over his last eight games. The 29-year-old's 15 home runs are tied for fifth most in the National League. He'll carry a .232/.310/.461 slash line into their next series vs the Rangers.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Blasts leadoff homer

    Rotowire

Lindor went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Padres.

On the third pitch he saw, Lindor took Dylan Cease deep for his first leadoff homer since 2019. It was his 12th home run this season and the third in his last nine games. Lindor has been on a steady climb for about a month now with an average of .303 over his last 25 games. After his slow start, the shortstop is now carrying a .231/.305/.420 slash line with 12 homers, 34 RBI and 11 steals for the season.

  • Mets' Tylor Megill: Picks up second win

    Rotowire

Megill (2-3) pitched five innings to get the win Sunday vs the Padres. He gave up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five.

Megill worked around jams in the first and fifth innings to pick up his second win in his last three starts. The 28-year-old righty has struggled getting deep into games, as he's pitched more than five innings in only one of his six starts this season. Despite this, he's been a steadying presence in the Mets' rotation with a 3.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Resting for day game

    Rotowire

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Alvarez will get a breather for the day game Sunday after he started behind the plate Friday and Saturday. Luis Torrens will step in as the Mets' starting catcher in place of Alvarez, who has gone 2-for-14 with two RBI through his first four starts since returning from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

  • J.D. Martinez, Mets look to keep rolling vs. Padres

    Stats

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: Blasts two homers Saturday

    Rotowire

Martinez went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs, three total RBI and two walks in Saturday's 5-1 win against the Padres.

Martinez reached in all five of his plate appearances and registered his first multi-homer game of the season. The veteran slugger has gone deep three times in his past three games and has at least one RBI in six of his past seven contests. Of Martinez's past six hits, five (two doubles and three homers) have gone for extra bases.

  • Mets' Jose Quintana: Quiets Padres on Saturday

    Rotowire

Quintana (2-5) earned the win over San Diego on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters over six innings.

The only run Quintana allowed in the outing came on a fifth-inning Jackson Merrill solo homer. In fact, that was the only hit Quintana surrendered aside from a Fernando Tatis double in the first frame. This marked the fourth time Quintana has given up fewer than two runs in a start this season, though it was the first instance in which such a performance resulted in a victory. The veteran's six strikeouts Saturday marked a season high.

  • Mets' Kodai Senga: Tosses bullpen session

    Rotowire

Senga (shoulder/triceps) threw a two-inning bullpen session Saturday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Senga was able to throw more than 30 pitches in the session and he's expected to throw a shorter one next week. The right-hander has been slowly working his way back from a posterior right capsule strain and then a subsequent triceps injury, and he's yet to make his season debut. Senga has already been ruled out for the first half of the season, but if he can build on Saturday's session next week, he'll remain on track to return relatively soon following the All-Star break.

  • Mets' Starling Marte: Day off Saturday

    Rotowire

Marte is not in the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Padres.

Marte was in the lineup for each of the previous four games, but he will receive a day of rest Saturday. DJ Stewart is handling right field for the Mets in this one.

  • Mets' Edwin Diaz: Secures sixth save

    Rotowire

Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Padres.

A leadoff single by Jurickson Profar and a stolen base by pinch runner Jose Azocar created another nervous ninth for the Mets, but Diaz buckled down after that and fanned Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth to preserve the win. Diaz's velocity appears to be all the way back -- his fastest pitch Friday hit 100 mph -- and he's looked to be in just about peak form in two appearances since recovering from a shoulder impingement. The 30-year-old right-hander is just 6-for-10 in converting save chances in 2024, but as long as he's healthy he should be locked in as the Mets' closer.

  • Mets' Sean Manaea: Fans seven in fourth win

    Rotowire

Manaea (4-3) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over five-plus innings in a 2-1 victory over the Padres. He struck out seven.

The veteran southpaw did serve up a homer for the fifth straight start, a solo shot in the fifth inning by Jackson Merrill, but it was the only damage Manaea surrendered. It was a strong bounce-back effort after he'd been tagged for 11 earned runs in 9.1 frames over his prior two outings, and Manaea will take a 4.11 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 67:26 K:BB through 65.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week against the Rangers.
